Thankful Hearts: Date Night!

Here’s a happy new feature: Thankful Hearts!  Because on a sleepy Monday morning (that has turned into a sleepy Monday afternoon before my very eyes), we could use a little pick-me-up, don’t you think?

Before we got married, Mike and I went on dates.  (A novel concept, I know.)  Here is the first known photographic evidence of one such date, a fabulous fundraiser for the Lutheran Volunteer Corps about a month after we started dating in October, 2004:

Cute, right?  This is actually a digital photo of the photo, since it was taken with an old timey film camera and someone is too lazy to dig out the scanner. Personally,  I think it gives it a hazy, romantic feel.

Anyway, Mike and I went on lots of dates before we got married, and a fair number of dates after we got married, too.  And then we had Zoe, and we never went on a date again.

Okay, that is not true.  What is true, as any parent can tell you, is that having a baby means having far fewer dates than you once had.  But it also makes the dates you do have much more exciting, even if all you’re doing is going to Target without a diaper bag and a shrieking toddler.  Really, errands can be a great date at this time of life!

Today, I am thankful for a very special treat: Date Night on a Monday!  And we are not even going to Target, we are going to the movies!  Captain America has come to the State Theater in Hutch, and we are all over it like white on rice.

Added bonus: the tickets at this movie theater are so cheap, we feel almost obligated to buy snacks there, too.  We are supporting an independent business.  It is our duty to buy Junior Mints.  And popcorn, because it is criminal to keep those two taste sensations apart.

What makes your heart thankful today?

  1. I’m so glad to know we’re not the ONLY ones who go to Target on our dates. We go out to eat usually and then we ask ourselves, “what do we do now?” Target is the place! Have fun tonight.

    • We totally go to Target on our dates! I don’t know if it’s because we don’t have a Target in our town, but we seem to end up there pretty often, too. Last night we had supper with Zoe and then the movie by ourselves–by the time that was over, it was time to get home (and Target was closed, anyway). It was fun to be out having fun after 7 PM!
