Sweet Sound

Maybe Santa will bring Zoe a guitar that actually plays music (and that is easier for her toddler hands to hold).  But for now, she enjoys rocking out with this Guitar Hero controller while we sing, “Play your guitar with Murray! Play your guitar with him!”  (Pro Tip: Murray is the Red Wiggle.  He plays the guitar.  I could go on.)

One of the great things about church, as I’ve said, is that it’s one of the few places people still sing together.  That is also one of the great things about raising a child: we get to sing all the time!  Zoe has quite a repertoire, from the aforementioned Wiggles to nursery rhymnes to  Devo to Moxy Fruvous.

Right now, my favorite Zoe tune is her version of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”.  It goes like this:

He’s got the whole world in his hands.

He’s got Papa’s toesies in his hands.

He’s got Grandma’s toesies in his hands.

He’s got Zoe’s toesies  in his hands.

He’s got the whole world in his hands!

That’s how we are praying for Papa and Grandma (and their toes) these days.  It’s music to my ears.

When we asked our then 3-year old daughter WHO had the whole world in his hands, she thought for about 5 seconds, then replied, “King Kong?” I had lunch with your mom this AM. She seems to be holding up as well as can be expected. We had a couple of good laughs.

Our son Martin received a ukulele for Christmas from my wife’s parents when he was 2 1/2. It’s perfect for his size and he still loves playing it at age 4. Toddlers and music is always a great combination!

Sam and I have been singing it, too! Except the toesies are “John’s” and “Marilyn’s,” and the baby reaches for my chin rather than exactly singing along. But it’s obvious he’s in accord.
